Our Roadmap
Our roadmap includes financial, organizational, and outcome-based goals to help us serve as dedicated advocates of social prescribing. We aim for every American to have access to social prescribing by 2035; one- and three-year goals guide our growth towards that end.
Overview
Quick Links
We are delighted to witness growing awareness and interest in social prescribing within the United States. To keep pace with momentum and to serve as dedicated leaders, our primary objective for 2025 is to transition from a volunteer staffing model to a dedicated full-time team. If you would like to support this goal, you may donate here.
One-year goals (by 2026)
Increased Capacity
We are eager to expand our team with additional paid staff members and contractors, along with paid fellowships, so that we can support the growing social prescribing movement with enhanced educational offerings and advocacy efforts. To date, most of our growth and impact has been supported by dedicated volunteers.
Inaugural Social Prescribing USA Conference
Following successful models from the UK and Canada, we will collaborate on a healthy community conference including social prescribing (to be held in October 2025) and will host the inaugural Social Prescribing USA Conference in 2026. We also intend to support local summits and are collaborating on a toolkit for hosting social prescribing events.
Social Prescribing Pilots in all 50 states
We are eager to support the launch of social prescribing pilots within all 50 states, including a pilot with the Kaiser Permanente Healthcare System, by the end of 2025. To learn about current initiatives, please explore our interactive initiative map.
Enhanced Physician/Health Professional Engagement
We are building a vibrant, organized community of physicians and health professionals across the US and plan to facilitate their communication with one another as well as build their local advocacy skills. We believe deeply in the power of knowledge sharing, and we see this group playing a key role.
Expanded Community of Practice
We plan to expand support for our implementers across the United States.
Three-Year Goals (by 2028)
Establishment of research grants for students and professionals
We believe deeply in the importance of research in discovering best practices for social prescribing, and we are are eager to support students’ budding interest in studying social prescribing.
Pilot program grants
Administration of grants to support innovative social prescribing programs across the U.S.
Comprehensive social media presence
With social media as a valuable tool for public education, we will establish active presences on all major social media platforms to deliver approachable information on social prescribing from reputable sources.
Publication of policy positions
Within the next five years, we seek to research, write, and publish official policy positions on the role of social prescribing within the US healthcare system.
Health professional training curricula
As US medical schools and other training programs support the next generation of health professionals, we look forward to collaborating on incorporating the concepts of social prescribing and community health into curricula, an initiative already underway in other countries, including the United Kingdom.
