What is social prescribing?
Social prescribing is a model of care delivery that enables health professionals to formally prescribe non-clinical community activities— including the arts, movement, nature, and service (volunteering)— to improve patient health, and at minimal patient cost. Social prescribing is designed to address social determinants of health, including social connection. Built on a foundation of health equity and collaboration across sectors, social prescribing is intended to broaden health professional toolkits, rather than to replace pharmacological measures.

What we do
In pursuit of our mission to help all Americans access social prescribing, we seek to amplify current social prescribing initiatives, to champion the launch of new, research-backed pilots, and to provide engaging resources to general audiences and practitioners. A selection of current projects are shown below, and we invite you to explore our menu for additional information.
Community of Practice
We host and coordinate a dynamic Community of Practice that fosters cross-sector collaboration among professionals engaged in social prescribing across the United States. We also host a Health Professional Champions group.
Initiative Mapping
We map social prescribing initiatives nationwide to support their missions, promote their outcomes, and advance equitable access to non-clinical health interventions throughout the country.
Education
We provide educational resources and training to empower healthcare providers, community leaders, and organizations to effectively implement social prescribing. Resources include FAQs and an evidence library of peer-reviewed articles.
Webinars & Events
We offer engaging webinars and events and support the events of others that connect experts, practitioners, and advocates to share the latest insights in social prescribing. We are also building a toolkit to make it easier for others to host social prescribing events (estimated for February).
We are pleased to partner with the following organizations to expand education, research, and access to social prescribing in the United States. We continuously pursue new partnerships; please contact us if you would like to learn more about opportunities to work together.
