Big NYC Social Prescribing Event

February 3, 2025

In late January, Social Prescribing USA joined with UJA-Federation of NY (UJA) on an inspiring summit that brought some of the world’s social prescribing leaders together with local and national advocates in New York City to build awareness of the power of social prescribing in addressing and combating social isolation. UJA is one of the most prominent philanthropic organizations in New York and this event, “THE POWER OF CONNECTION: Social Prescribing to Combat Isolation and Loneliness” was UJA’s first-ever summit on social prescribing to combat isolation. It was a tremendous event that helped raise the bar for the field!

Social Prescribing USA Director, Dr. Alan Siegel, helped welcome the crowd of more than 200 people to kick off the day, which included a focus on social, healthcare, and communal interventions that improve health outcomes for isolated and lonely individuals. Speakers included the leaders of the United Kingdom-based National Academy of Social Prescribing, journalist and author Allison Gilbert, top health care executives and professionals from around New York City, and pioneers in the arts and social prescribing, including our advisors Chris Appleton, head of Arts Pharmacy and Tracy Parris-Benjamin.

We hope to see future regional summits like this in communities—-big and small, urban and rural—-around the country in the future, and are working on toolkits and easy-to-follow guidance to make them happen!
